Who doesn’t like a little extra cash in their pocket?
Using media platforms that allow you to post and sell items is a perfect way to collect a little extra spending money. So, you’ve gone through your garage, the closets, the bedrooms and storage areas, now what to do with everything you’ve pulled out that you no longer want or need? Using platforms such as offer-up, Craigslist, etc.… are all great ways to sell some of those items that are still in good condition.
How to do it?
We suggest you pull aside each item you want to sell and take a good picture. Make sure there’s enough light to see the item clearly and depending on the size and type of item it may be best to take multiple photos. Once you have taken photos of all the items you wish to sell, decide which platforms you want to post your items for sale on. The more platforms you use the more people you reach out to.
Most sites will require you to sign up to post items for sale. Follow the steps to create a sign in, and once that has been completed you will be able to post items for sale. Along with the photo add a brief, but solid description of what the item is, the condition of the item, and why you no longer want it. This will help to limit the questions you get about the item. When you’re trying to decide on pricing the item do a quick search and see what others are offering for your same product, that way you have a good idea of how much you should start at. A lot of times you will see a dollar amount and then the phrase obo, which means “or best offer”. This lets the buyer know you are willing to negotiate. If you do not wish to negotiate it’s a good idea to state firm price or non-negotiable. You will also have the option to offer to ship the item if that is something you’re interested in doing, if not local selling is a great option as well.
If your using a platform like offer-up or …. make sure you allow notifications, that way when someone inquiries about your item you will be notified immediately and be able to respond promptly. If your using a website such as craigslist or …. you have the option of putting your email or cell phone number. Just make sure you are checking whichever method of communication you chose to use to make sure you respond to interested buyers in a timely manner.
Once you have made a deal with a buyer deciding how to get them their item is next. If you chose to ship items, you will need their address. Always ship an item through USPS, UPS, or FedEx with a confirmation and tracking number, that way you know where the package is and when it has been delivered. In terms of payment, PayPal, Zelle, Apple Pay, google pay and Venmo are all good options.
If you have chosen only local selling options then you can either give the buyer your address for them to come pick up the item, deliver the item to their house, or pick a half-way point to meet in between and they will give you the cash in exchange for your item .
Voila! You have just made yourself a little extra spending money, and a lot less junk around the house!
